There was a popular song released back in the early 2000s entitled "I Need You". It was made popular through the voice of LeAnn Rimes. The song was a single from "Jesus: Music From & Inspired by the Epic Mini-Series". It certainly is not a deep song from a doctrinal aspect nor am I advocating that the song be sung as a special during Sunday morning worship, but the lyrics to the chorus are especially intriguing.
"I need you like water,
Like breath, like rain.
I need you like mercy,
from Heaven's gate."
Whatever your thoughts are about the song, no one can deny the baseline truth of those words when in reference to our relationship with Jesus Christ. But my question for us is, "what changed?"
What I mean by that question is that somewhere along the lines Jesus was big enough for us to put our faith and trust in for our life, but yet not big enough for us to trust on a daily basis. What happens as we get off focus? We stop faithfully attending church, we stop reading our Bible, our prayer life is basically non-existent, and we quite make Jesus the number One priority in our life.
This certainly does not mean we have "lost our salvation". As genuine Christians, we have eternal security in Christ. But when we shift our focus from the overwhelming need of Christ, then everything else in our life falls apart. Perhaps today we need a focus shift? Perhaps this week we need to seriously consider what place Jesus has in our life. Because at the end of the day, Jesus is all we have anyway.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
